17 books per minute at Albelli ahead of Christmas
Record orders for a personal gift
Amsterdam, December 19, 2011
Albelli the photo book brand of European company Albumprinter, which proved a winner with UK’s Channel 5’s The Gadget Show in November, has literally been running overtime. With Christmas fast approaching it seems the global recession has led to a boom in people looking to give more personal and heartfelt gifts.
The final order date for UK Christmas deliveries was Friday 16th December at midnight. As a result last week was a record week for the European business with over 110,000 orders flooding in. The team behind the scenes has been working flat out to process a book on average every 3.5 seconds, a record for the company. During the festive season the Albumprinter Group has produced up to 5000 km of FSC paper books, which is as far as from London to Moscow and back! The number of pictures that the Albumprinter Group processed during this period is impressive: nearly 70 million high resolution photos in time for the holidays. Together, the photos processed at this time a file size of 33 Terabyte, which is equivalent to the memory of over 2,000 iPads!
Stormy weather boosts online sales
With only days to go before the Christmas deadline there was a spike in the number of orders – on their busiest day last week over 21,000 orders were placed across the group. The bad weather seemed to help drive people online for their Christmas shopping. Keith Hanson, Country Manager UK at Albumprinter said, "It seems that the wet and stormy weather encouraged people to stay inside and do their Christmas shopping. Last week was incredible for us with record numbers of orders in the UK. We couldn’t believe the surge in orders over the last few hours before our Christmas cut off.”
It certainly seems that people want to create something personal this year with the whole range of photo gifts spiking over the last few weeks. Photo books as a category have seen strong growth throughout 2011 and this holiday spike has shown their popularity is set to continue. Digital cameras have been popular Christmas gifts for a number of years now and turning these new photos into a photo book has been a growing trend. Albelli has a range of inspirational ideas to help turn those moments into memories that can last a lifetime.
